I have developed an export template designed for Multi Level Stories and my weblog. The story begins with a summary. If the reader wishes to continue, they can click on a link and read the entire story. Want to know how I do it? Read More, click here!

The Tinderbox Forum has been very important to me. It is a place where I get questions answered and learn new ways to use an extraordinary software tool. I have developed a sense of community here.

I have also made mistakes here. I too have posted inappropriately. Perhaps at times because I am naive. And at times truly uncertain whether I have encountered a bug or a feature. After all, Tinderbox is certainly complex. But I am willing to learn and I have learned that this Forum should be treated with respect, just as you would treat your hardest working, most dedicated colleagues.

By the way Mark, thanks for responding to my email this weekend. And a holiday weekend at that!

So how do I make a multilevel blog post?

First, look over the manual and read the section titled "Web Pages Built of Many Notes". This will give you a feel for how to use template files to control what elements are included from a particular named note.

As in ^include(note_name, template_file)^

Also, read about conditionals. They are simple and powerful and I use them a lot.

Then, as Mark often suggests, start small and build up slowly.

Here is a simplified version of a TBX document with multilevel stories. Each level is assigned one of two prototypes - protoStory or protoStoryItem. The other key issues are HTMLDontExport (I'll call it HDE) and HTMLExportChildren (HDEC).

-2003 Notepad : a Note: Prototype=none;HDE=true;HDEC=true

--Stories : a Note: Prototype=none;HDE=false;HDEC=true

---Story 1 : a Note: Prototype=protoStory;HDE=false;HDEC=false: This is the note with the summary of the Story

----StoryItem 1 : a Note: Prototype=protoStoryItem;HDE=false;HDEC=false: This is a note with part of the story

----StoryItem 2 : a Note: Prototype=protoStoryItem;HDE=false;HDEC=false: This is a note with more of the story written using the power of Tinderbox brainstorming!

---Story 2 etc.

-Index : an Agent: Query: Prototype= protoStory; HDE=false;HDEC=false: This agent collects the summaries for the index page.

Notice that the note that contains the Stories exports each story as its own full page. Also, an agent collects all the summaries based on prototype=protoStory and exports this as an index (HTMLExportFileName=index.html).

I started with the trainblogging template. I modified the trainTemplate and the trainitem export documents. It took a good deal of trial and error. I'll describe in some detail soon. Have to go for now.
